Marquee wedding reception styling ideas!

Marquee weddings are always a favourite of ours, because each wedding is completely unique! With a totally blank canvas to work with, we love seeing brides putting their own personal stamp on their wedding reception through the styling of their marquee.

Decorating a marquee wedding reception can also mean a lot of work, as you have to consider absolutely everything - tables, chairs, tableware, florals and stationery, the whole lot! And that’s not even considering the set-up and logistical side of things (although we’ve previously blogged a few tips to help you plan a marquee wedding reception which might be a good read first!).

So if you’re currently planning a marquee wedding reception yourself, it’s normal to be feeling slightly overwhelmed. But when it comes to styling a marquee reception, there really are no rules - it’s your chance to create a wedding that truly represents your own personal style. We’ve seen so many beautiful marquee wedding receptions in years gone by, so we thought we’d compile some of our favourite marquee styling ideas to get you started with some inspiration.

From unique colour palettes to table details and creative lighting options, here are just a few of the looks we are currently loving, and our top furniture and decor picks to help you recreate them for yourself!

SOFT PASTELS

Right now we are especially loving a soft and subtle pastel colour palette for beautiful marquee receptions - think blush pinks, light greys and oatmeal paired with a neutral base of crisp whites and earthy timbers. This kind of colour palette is perfect for creating an intimate and romantic ambience.

To get this look, pair timber dining tables with white dining chairs and fill your tables with lush pastel arrangements (beautiful orchids and pampas grass are currently having their moment!). Keep table settings simple with elegant white or grey dinner plates, blush napkins and gold or silver cutlery. Light up your marquee with strings of fairy lights or statement pendants and you have yourself a seriously beautiful setting!

TROPICAL AND BRIGHT

Bright, bold colours work so perfectly in a clear marquee! We love marquee receptions that feel like a modern tropical oasis - think giant installations of palms and monstera leaves, offset with vibrant tropical blooms and natural textures on the tablescapes below.

To get this look, keep the base of your design neutral (like timber tables with white, black or walnut chairs) and then add bold colours through your linen and floral arrangements (navy napkins for example make a huge statement!). Plenty of earthy textures like bamboo, timber and rattan will always work perfectly for a tropical look - consider rattan charger plates for place settings or clusters of hanging basket lights from above.

And of course, don’t forget the plants - clusters of tropical potted plants around the edge of your marquee can help to create that true tropical feeling!

ORGANIC WHITE + GREEN

Elegant white and green remains a timeless colour palette for any kind of wedding, but the good news is that these organic tones work perfectly for marquee receptions too!

Simplicity is the key here, so stick to crisp white furniture and timber tables and use your greenery as a beautiful contrast - hanging bunches of foliage or lush table arrangements are a great way to soften the look. Continue the theme with a white or timber bar piled high with foliage arrangements and crystal glassware!

For a hint of colour on your tablescapes, pale grey or charcoal napkins along with elegant gold or silver cutlery pairs well with classic white plates. A green wall backdrop behind the bridal table is another way to really make all of those white details pop!

MODERN MONOCHROME

Don’t be afraid to incorporate black tones into your wedding - a monochrome colour palette actually works perfectly within a marquee wedding reception!

You don’t need to overwhelm the space, but black bentwood chairs, black dinner plates or black napkins paired against timber tables can help to create a modern and contemporary ambience. Soft grey or charcoal linens can also be the perfect addition to your tablescapes, along with simple floral arrangements of green and white to freshen the look. Our recent post on how to use black in your wedding styling is another great resource when it comes to creating a beautiful monochrome wedding reception!

LUXE GOLD

For a truly luxe marquee wedding reception, we just can’t go past elegant gold details!

Gold wire dining chairs make a HUGE statement within a marquee and can completely transform the entire space, especially when paired with timber tables, gold pendant lights and lots of gorgeous greenery. Gold accents can also work perfectly with any of the styles mentioned above - for example, you can use gold to add some luxe into a tropical or monochrome setting, or to complement a pastel colour scheme.

Gold is such a versatile colour to add into any wedding, but it’s all in the subtlety - you can read our styling tips on working with gold for some more inspiration.
