Today, we’re introducing you to one of our newest team members, Emily. Emily is our uber-talented Creative Designer and brings our exciting design projects to life. From creating mood boards and styling concepts to dreaming up new inventory collections, Emily is our go-to person for all things creative.

We recently asked Emily to share her thoughts on furniture trends, styling inspiration and planning tips for a seamless event. Keep reading for an inside look at a day in the life of our Creative Designer!

Can you walk us through a typical day as the Creative Designer at HEH?

Hmmm... well, no day is ever the same! Currently I have about 4 major design projects on the go, and I don't know how many little projects happening too. Another thing on my to do list (and one of my favourite parts of the job) is the event design and vision boards I get to create - working closely with the Account Manager to produce something amazing for our clients as we bring their event to life.

How did you discover your love of all things design?

I think I progressively discovered it throughout high school. I've been drawing and painting as far back as I can remember, but there is one event that sticks in my mind as my 'ah ha' moment - my year 11 fashion show. I submitted two designs, making both of them and learning to sew in the process. Much to my surprise, I ended up winning - but after it was all done, I looked back and realised I loved the whole design process. Ever since then, I’ve always been designing in one way or another.

What furniture trends are you loving right now?

I'm absolutely loving the art-deco influence that has come through, and all of the beautiful curved lines that come along with it. Pantone's colour of the year - “Living Coral” - is working really beautifully in furniture, whether it’s in the furniture piece itself or the decorative finishing touches. Everyone should definitely check out our new terracotta and blush toned items - they’ve been very popular!

What are your top tips for pulling together a cohesive event?

Everything starts with an idea, whether that be a favourite furniture piece, colour palette or overall theme. It's important to keep this in mind throughout the event planning process, so you don't lose sight of the look and feel you initially wanted to create. A mood board is the perfect way to connect with how you want the event to feel, and what style you're hoping to achieve. This allows you to keep your overall vision front-of-mind, and you can build from there.

Where are your go-to places to find creative inspiration?

Anywhere outside. Whether it be soaking up landscapes and scenery throughout the great outdoors, or simply wandering down the street and spying a beautiful building. You can find amazing colours and textures in nature - there really is beauty all around us.

It's also great to just get outside and clear your mind every once in a while. I usually have a million things running through my head, so sometimes I need to step back and quieten all of the noise to allow the creativity to happen.

Without giving too much away… what exciting projects are you working on this year?

There are quite a number of exciting projects in the works at the moment! We are currently working on the build of some new key pieces to bring into the range. Unfortunately I can't share too much more at this stage, but do keep your eyes peeled - as soon as we can, we'll share some sneak peeks.

Finally, your number one piece of advice for couples planning their wedding?

Always have a Plan B that you're happy with. The weather might not be on your side, or any number of last-minute changes might arise that are simply outside of your control. Having to organise or decide on something different on your wedding day is the last thing you want to be worrying about!

And at the end of the day, it doesn't matter if it's not exactly as you imagined - remember, you're marrying the love of your life and sharing that moment with your closest friends and family. Nothing else matters.
