We have seen a huge (and delicious) trend emerging lately with the appearance of doughnuts at weddings. Or should I say donuts? Fun fact; the dictionary-approved official spelling is actually ‘Doughnut’ but the more commonly used ‘Donut’ became an alternative after the popularity of US food chain Dunkin Donuts.  Either way, we love them, and we love seeing them being used creatively at weddings. If you are a donut lover like us, check out our top 5 ways to use donuts at your wedding below!

1. DONUT CAKE

Don’t get me wrong, I love a traditional wedding cake as much as the next person, but there is just something that makes me happy about donut cakes. Whether they are stacked together to create a towering structure, or neatly lined around a 3 tier stand, donut cakes are definitely a unique and tasty option for dessert. Plus nobody has to worry about cutting the cake evenly, or passing around plates and napkins. Win-win.

2. DONUT BAR

Maybe you love donuts so much that one donut cake just isn’t going to be enough, I get it. If you want to showcase a selection of your favourite donuts then a donut bar is a great alternative to a classic dessert table at a wedding. You can get super creative with this one to create an amazing visual feature to complement your wedding theme– think colourful backdrops, props, fun signage, and of course stacks and stacks of donuts. To get even more creative have a selection of toppings for guests to decorate their own donut.

3. DONUT WALL

Donut walls!!! The next step up from a donut bar. I’m not sure what else needs to be said here. We are talking about an entire wall of donuts. This is probably going to have to be custom made, so try and recruit some family or friends with handy building skills to help you out with this one. A donut wall is the perfect way to showcase a number of different flavours, so make sure you include some cute signage for each one.

4. donut favors

Leaving a wedding with a donut to take home = best wedding ever.  Nothing says “thank you for celebrating our special day” like a donut. Mini donut favors can be packaged beautifully in individual boxes or bags, with a sweet message for your guests. The packaging itself can be a pretty feature on your tablescape – for a rustic setting, brown paper bags with calligraphy tags would be beautiful, or for a more modern table setting use boxes with bright pops of colour. You could even personalise them with your guest names and double the favours as place cards.

5. DONUT VAN

For the serious donut lovers amongst us, consider booking a donut van for your guests to enjoy all night long! This way you don’t have to worry about setting anything up or packing your display down. Bonus if the van can serve yummy hot drinks to sip alongside your donut at the end of the night.

We can’t wait to see more creative and delicious donut inspiration this year!
